Description	:	Helen Smith, daughter of David and Ora (Kelly) Petty, was born in Eldorado Springs, Missouri, June 20, 1901. As a small child the family moved to Nebraska. She attended Nelson Schools. On September 4, 1920, in Nelson, she was united in marriage to Harold O. Smith. To this union six children were born She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nelson, and Naomi Circle of the Church. Read More	Helen Smith, daughter of David and Ora (Kelly) Petty, was born in Eldorado Springs, Missouri, June 20, 1901. As a small child the family moved to Nebraska. She attended Nelson Schools. On September 4, 1920, in Nelson, she was united in marriage to Harold O. Smith. To this union six children were born She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nelson, and Naomi Circle of the Church. Helen loved to cross-stitch and was an excellent cook, especially her cookies and cakes. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Harold who passed away June 10, 1982; three sons, Donald, Gene and Jack; a brother, John Petty; and a sister, Mary McBride. Survivors include two sons, Dale Smith and his wife LaVawn of Tucson, Arizona, and David Smith and his wife Sharon of Leesburg, Florida; one daughter, Joan and her husband Willard Crandell of Elwood, Nebraska; a sister, Maude Anderson of Yuma, Arizona; 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Helen passed away July 1, 1991, in the Good Samaritan Center, Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years and 11 days. Funeral services were held Friday, July 5, 1911, at 11:00 a.m. from the Community United Church of Christ in Nelson with Rev. Royce Buchtel officiating. Ruth Watts singing "The Lord's Prayer" with Myrtle Worley as organist and accompanist. Casketbearers were Richard Bardsley, Rich Crandell, R.L. Culbertson, Jay Nielsen, Ron Crandell and Dick Wroughton. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson was in charge of the arrangements.
