The passing of Mr. Reese takes another of Adams County's pioneers and causes us to pause and realize how few of the early residents of the county are left. Mr. Reese will always be remembered as a kind, patient, and helpful friend. His deeds of kindness are always done in a quiet way and those who knew him best always remembered him as being patient, kingly and unassuming. Henry Christopher Reese was born March 18, 1858, on a farm near Stingtown in Adams County, Iowa and departed this life at his home in Ames, October 12, 1937, aged 79 years. He was the son of Henry C. and Mary Reese who were among the first settler of Adams County. On April 24, 1880, Mr Reese was married to Carrie Ellen Roth, who preceded him in death February 14, 1901. To this union were born three children, Minnie M. Van Houten who died October 30, 1918, Lillian V. Pottinger of Des Moines, Iowa, and Clarence E. Reese of Creston, Iowa. He was again married on November 5th, 1903 to Carrie L. Gidder of Wellman, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, Henry F. Reese of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Helen Neeley of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mary Ester Reese who died in infancy. He is survived by his wife and four children, also two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Fleming of Corning, Iowa, Mrs. Anna Russell of Omaha, Nebraska; and two brothers, Lewis C. Reese of Creston and John C. Reese of Corning, Iowa. A brother, Fred Reese of Villisca, passed away three years ago and two brothers, George and William died in infancy. There were five grandchildren, Dorothy M David who died in 1924, Vera P. Young of Oxford, Indiana, Roy D. Pottinger, Des Moines, Iowa; Paul W. and Lee Dean Reese of Milwaukee, and three great grandchildren, Forest David, Prescott, Iowa; and Danny and Raymond Young of Oxford, Indiana. Mr. Reese was a life long member of the United Presbyterian Church, also a member of Circle Lodge No. 585, A. F. & A. M. of Prescott. He spent a number of years on his farm in Adams County where he was an extensive stock raiser. Moving to Prescott, Iowa in March 1900 he engaged in the implement business for a number of years. In September 1925, he moved to Ames, Iowa, retiring from active business. Interment was made in the Stringtown Cemetery beside his first wife Carrie E. Reese. The funeral was largely attended, many friends paying their tributes of respect to the deceased. The floral offerings were profuse and very beautiful. Funeral services were conducted by W. R.
