Description	:	Henry Davey was the son of Bernard Davey and Sophia McKibbon. Henry's father, Bernard Davey, was born ca 1824 in Ireland and died ca 1884 in What Cheer, Keokuk County, Iowa. Bernard and Sophia were married in the early-to-mid 1850s, possibly in Cambria County, Pennsylvania; they settled in Cambria County. Bernard and Sophia were married in the early-to-mid 1850s, possibly in Cambria County, Pennsylvania; they settled in Cambria County. Between 1877 [when their last child, son William, was born in Pennsylvania] and the early 1880s, the family relocated to What Cheer. On the 1885 Iowa State Census, Keokuk County, the matriarch, Sophia Davey, born in Scotland, appeared as widowed; two daughters, [Anna] Sophia and Ellen, and two sons, James and William, resided with her. On the 1895 Iowa State Census, What Cheer, Keokuk County, the matriarch, Sophia Davey, born in Scotland, was listed alone; her marital status was not given. When Sophia died in 1909, among the relatives who attended her funeral were "Mr. and Mrs. Henry Davey of Rosedale, Ind." Henry Davey married Mary Ann Gilfoy, daughter of Phillip Gilfoy and Sarah Burke, on September 17, 1878, in Stark County, Ohio; they were married until her death in 1926. Henry and his bride soon settled in Indiana where they started their family. The couple had six children, five of whom survived, namely: John Bernard ("Barney") Davey (1879-1951), Sarah ("Sadie") Marie (Davey) [Knox] Fiock (1881-1955), Phillip Aloysius Davey (1883-1964), Sophia J. Davey (1886-1904), and Joseph Edward Davey (1888-1959). On the 1900 Census, Florida, Parke County, Indiana, it was stated that Mrs. Davey had borne six children and that five were living. On the 1910 Census, Florida, Parke County, Indiana, it was stated that Mrs. Davey had borne six children and that four were living; daughter Sophia died in 1904. THE DAILY CLINTONIAN; Clinton, Vermillion County, Indiana; Wednesday, October 11, 1939; Page One: "Former Clinton Resident Dies Tuesday Morning Word has been received here of the death of Henry Davey of Keenesburg, Colo., a former Clinton resident, which occurred Tuesday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Sadie M. Knox. He had been in failing health for the past four months. Other relatives are three sons, Barney of Montezuma and Phillip and Joseph Davey of Rosedale. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1926. Although funeral arrangements have not yet been completed, burial will be in Rosedale cemetery." ROSEDALE, Ind., Oct. 11. -- Word has been received here of the death of Henry Davey, former Rosedale resident, who died at his home in Keenesburg, Colo. Surviving are three sons, Barney Davey, of Montezuma, Ind., and Joseph and Phillip, of Rosedale; one daughter, Mrs. Sadie M. Knox, of Keenesburg, with whom Mr. Davey made his home after the death of his wife in 1926; two grandchildren, Edward Davey and Mrs. Robert Burton [Rosemary (Davey) Burton], of Graysville, and one great grandson, Bobby Burton. The body will arrive in Terre Haute Wednesday evening and later will be taken to the Cox-Williams Funeral Home in Rosedale." Grandson Edward Davey was the son of John Bernard ("Barney") Davey and his wife, Grace (Downin) Davey. Granddaughter Rosemary (Davey) Burton was the daughter of Joseph Edward Davey and his late wife, Ethel Elsie (Patterson) Davey. The Rosedale Cemetery is managed by the Town of Rosedale, Parke County, Indiana. Due to a fire, their records prior to the 1940s are either spotty or nonexistent. Although there are headstones for Henry Davey, who died in 1939; his wife, Mary Ann Davey, who died in 1926; and their daughter, Sophia J. Davey, who died in 1904, the cemetery has no record of their burials. The cemetery does, however, have records of the burials of Henry and Mary Ann's sons, Joseph Edward Davey, who died in 1959, and Phillip A. Davey, who died in 1964.
