He has been in failing health for a year or two last past, but kept about until a week or so ago, when he was taken with something akin to grip, which quickly developed into pneumonia, and he succumbed to the disease Monday evening at 8:45, at his home on the corner of 11th. and Q, first south of the creamery at the age of 78 years. Mr. Brown has tilled the soil all his life, and has been quite successful in procuring a competency for a large family. The fruits of his first matrimonial union (to Anna Marie Springsteel; the couple married 27 Aug 1846 in Franklin, Indiana USA. She was born around 1827 and died 1859 in Illinois.) were six children; Mrs. Martha James, wife of M.W. James, who lives near Marquette, is the eldest; Mrs. Lottie Willard of Marquette; Hamilton J., George and Albert are dead-the latter was a resident of this county previous to 1890-and William of Marquette. Nearly a half century ago his second marriage took place with Miss Anna Cameron in Ohio, the state of his birth. She survives. He moved to Shenandoah, Iowa, about 1871, and in 1890 came to this county, where he has long been owner of valuable farm properties. The result of his second union was eight children-Edward, N.S., Oscar, Mrs. Ida Weston, Elmer and Elba twins, Hattie and one that died. Mr. Brown has been a consistent member of the Christian church for fifty-one years. A quiet, inoffensive, industrious citizen, who had friends everywhere and not an enemy on earth. He never spoke ill of anyone, and had nothing but good words for acquaintance or stranger. The Sun office will miss his friendly greeting every Friday about press time, when he was a regular caller for his paper. The funeral occurred at the residence Wednesday at two o'clock, Rev. A.N. Thomas preaching the funeral discourse. The last sad rites were administered in a solemn manner, in the midst of a large number of relatives and neighbors, and the remains were gently laid to rest in the Aurora Cemetery.
