Olander passed away Monday forenoon in the county hospital at Webster City, where he had been a patient for over two weeks. On Feb. 24, he fell in his room here and sustained a fracture of the bone in his left leg. He was taken to the hospital for treatment and seemed to be getting along nicely until the later part of last week when he grew worse which culminated in his death. Previous to his hospitalization, he had been in failing health for a number of years. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother. He is survived by two brothers and other relatives. Date of funeral pending, with the Jackson Funeral home in charge. Stratford Courier March 23, 1950 Obituary Herman A. Olander Herman A. Olander, son of Jonas and Mary C. Olander, was born at Houston, Minn., July 13, 1873, and passed away March 13, 1950, in the county hospital at Webster City at the age of 71 years and 8 months. He and his parents moved from Houston and located on a farm near Grand Junction, where they lived until 1889 when they moved to a farm west of Stratford. In 1900 they moved to Stratford, which place had been his home continuously until his death. Mr. Olander was a retired rural mail carrier here, having served in that capacity for 30 years, retiring in 1936. He had also served as custodian of the local Methodist church, of which he was a member, for a period of 20 years. He was also a member of the Stratford commercial club. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Edward, and two sisters, Mrs. J.W. Reed of Glenn Ellyn, Ill., and Lillian Olander. He is survived by two brothers, J. Fred Olander, of Atlantic, Ga., and John P. Olander, of Onawa, besides other relatives and numerous friends. Last rites were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Calvary Methodist church the services being conducted by the pastor, the Rev. W.S. Paige. Songs for the service were sung by Mrs. Harold Westrum and Mrs. W.R. Holstrum with Mrs. Ronald Bell as accompanist. They were "Abide With Me," and "Ivory Palaces." Following the services the remains were taken to Oakwood cemetery for interment. The pallbearers were: Andie Holt, T.H. Ferlen, A.E. Griffith, Howard Hastings, W.R. Holstrom and Berkley Berglund.
