HERMAN KOESTER After an illness of but two weeks Herman Koester, son of Henry and Caroline Koester passed from this life to the larger life at his home south of DuBois, Thursday, August 9, 1934. Although his illness was considered very serious andhis passing was not unexpected, it was hoped against hope that he would yet be spared his loved ones. The cause of death was attributed to the heat. Herman was the oldest of four children and was born on July 2, 1891. Here on the old Koester place he grew to manhood. Here in the neighborhood he attended school with the other children of the community. Here he learned the rigid lessons of everyday life. Here he labored on the farm where his father and his father's father had labored. He only reached the age of 43 years, one month and seven days but it was a time spent in peace and contentment. Here also he received his early Christian training which later culminated in his religious instruction and confirmation by the former Pastor Vogt. This occurred on the twenty-fourth of March, 1907. He leaves to mourn their loss his mother, Mrs. Henry Koester, one sister, Ida; a brother, Elmer; one niece Miss Irene Russell, who since the time of her mother's death, has made her home with the Koesters; beside other relatives and a host of friends. Those who were acquainted with the deceased bear witness to his character. He was upright in all his dealings and his honesty was an accepted fact. His passing but ten days after his father, places a double burden of sorrow upon the stricken family. A short funeral service was held at the home Saturday morning, August 11, 1934 at 10 o'clock. The double quartet of male voices sang "God Never Forgets." Following a prayer by the pastor, Rev. Otto Krueger after which the body was taken to the Friedens Evangelical church, where funeral services were conducted by Rev. Krueger. The double quartet sang three songs. The pallbearers were six cousins, those who had been pallbearers just the week before at the funeral of Herman's father, Henry Koester. The body was laid to rest by the side of his father and sister in the church cemetery. Mrs. W. L. Kauffman of Seneca an aunt, and Mr. Kauffman attended the funeral.
