Mrs. Vernon was born on November 23, 1925 in Rockingham County to the late Nathaniel Case and Minnie Gann Case. She was a member of Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Becky was known for feeding the community with her delicious food, especially her famous popcorn balls and homemade sourdough bread. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Efferlan Roscoe “Shike” Vernon, Sr.; brothers, Martin Lee Case and Lloyd Roy Case and sister, Audrey C. Shelton. Survivors include her sons, Roscoe Vernon (Hazel) and Terry Vernon (Donna); daughters, Dwala V. Higgins (Chuck) and Barbara V. Joyce; grandchildren, Tammy Lovette, Darren Lovette (Korie), Heather Lynn (Gabe), Charlie Higgins, III, Paige Bodine, Ann Vernon, Stephanie Joyce, Allison Douglas (Matt), Bret Hall, Ephraim and Trevor Vernon; great-grandchildren, Ashton Beckum (Colin), Sydney Marbert, Samantha Kendrick (Brandon), Dylan Brim, Talon and Jaden Bodine, Jackson and Riley Lynn and Katherine and Brock Lovette; great-great-grandchildren, Harper Kendrick and Taylor and Cameron Beckum and many beloved extended family members. Mrs. Vernon will lie in state on Thursday from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. until the funeral hour for those wishing to sign the register and pay their respects. Memorial contributions may be made to Hands of God, PO Box 358, Madison, NC 27025 or to a charity or organization of your choice. Colonial Funeral Home in Madison is serving the family.
