Description	:	Ira was born on April 9, 1832 near Girard, Erie County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Ira and Deborah (Washburn) Harrison. According to a book written by Ira and Louisa's daughter Viola, Ira went on two whaling voyages, one to the Indian Ocean and one to the Pacific Ocean. According to a book written by Ira and Louisa's daughter Viola, Ira went on two whaling voyages, one to the Indian Ocean and one to the Pacific Ocean. These occurred in the late 1840s and the early 1850s. He sailed on the bargues Montezuma and Silas Richards. In 1855 Ira, his sister Emeline and their mother Deborah moved to Floyd County, IA. Ira married Louisa Dean on June 7, 1857 in Nora Springs, Iowa. Although Ira never enlisted to fight during the Civil War, he did hire on in 1863 in McGregor, IA as a Teamster in the Army to haul military supplies. Teamsters were not normally soldiers. They were usually civilians who were paid $25 a month plus their rations. Ira and his brother Frank moved their families to Richardson County, Nebraska sometime between 1868 and 1869. They both returned to Iowa before 1875. History of Floyd County, IA 1882 Ira Harrison and Louisa Dean were members of the Old Settlers' Association. In order to join the association the member must have moved to Floyd County prior to 1860. Ira and Louisa were parents of Sylvia, Anne, Emily, Viola, Marion & Laura. Ira died at his home south of Nora Springs on Apr 2, 1906 from carcinoma of the stomach.
