Irene received her education at District No. 71 in Cuming County, Nebraska. On September 11, 1934, Irene and C. Dale Behlers were united in marriage at St. Paul's parsonage in Sioux City, Iowa. Read More	IRENE ROSE BEHLERS was born January 23, 1916, in rural Pender, Nebraska, to Martin and Mary (Breithbarth) Roth. She passed away Sunday, December 30, 2007, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years. Irene received her education at District No. 71 in Cuming County, Nebraska. On September 11, 1934, Irene and C. Dale Behlers were united in marriage at St. Paul's parsonage in Sioux City, Iowa. Following their marriage, they lived in the Cuming County area. Seven children were born to this union. They moved to South Sioux City in the late ‘50s, after farming a number of years. In 1975, they made their home in Lyons, Nebraska. Irene was a homemaker. Dale passed away in January 1989. Irene was a member of the Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lyons, where over the years, tied many quilts for Lutheran World Relief. She was a member of the Lyons Garden Club and enjoyed gardening and canning. She was active in the Happy Days Senior Center and its Kitchen Band. She enjoyed playing cards and was in a pinochle and pitch club and Irene also loved dancing. Irene was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was devoted to her family. She had a cheerful disposition and always had a word of encouragement for her family and many friends, old and young. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dale; sons: Dallas and Warren; two sisters: Lydia Hollman and Leona Roth; four brothers: Clarence, Ervin, Dale and Floyd Roth; grandson: Jay Kai and great grandson, Nathaniel Angerman. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law: Marlene and Pat Nelson of Lyons, Beverly and Roy Kai of Pender, Nebraska; sons and daughter-in-law: Merlin and Geri of Sioux City, Iowa; Charles of Winterset, Iowa, Douglas of Phoenix, Arizona; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great grandchildren; sister: Delores Hunt of Emerson, Nebraska; sisters-in-law: Iona Roth and Zeola Roth, both of Wisner and Denise Russman of Pender. FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, January 4, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons, Nebraska. BURIAL: Wisner Cemetery, Wisner, Nebraska VISITATION: Thursday, 1- 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons with the family receiving freinds from 6 - 8 p.m. and a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service. Visitation will also be held Thursday at the church one hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS: Colonial Haven Nursing Home, Beemer, Nebraska St. Francis Memorial Hosptial, West Point, Nebraska, Bethany Luthearn Church, Lyons.
