He and his brother-in-law also opened a general store - the first store in Stoutsville. Jacob was married to Lydia Stout from June 20, 1852 until her death in 1866. It's believed there were seven children born of this marriage: Simon P., Alice, Benjamin, Irvin S., Joseph, Wilson and Lydia. Rachel Bowman Meyers became Jacob's second wife on Feb. 28, 1867.
