Death could have no terror for such a life as thine. JW Margrave, one of Hiawatha's most respected old settlers, died Jan 1, 1906, aged 91 years, 4 months, and 15 days. He was born in Kentucky on August 16, 1814. On Feb 8, 1838, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Hopkins. To this union eight children were born, two of whom preceded the father to the heavenly home; the 6 remaining children were all present at the funeral. The wife and mother was laid to rest in Hiawatha on May 26, 1892. Mr. Margrave united with First Presbyterian Church of Hiawatha by letter in 1879. For 26 years he was a faithful loyal member. He was ordained to the eldership on Nov 16, 1890, and continued in that office until his death. Mr Margrave was a man of strong convictions. The funeral was held Wednesday morning at 11 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church, Rev RJ Phipps conducting the service.
