Description	:	Jay Dwight Adams was a successful insurance man in Atchison, Kansas, when he married the widowed Emma Grace Ballinger Coleman in 1926. He became father to Grace's three growing sons, John Ballinger Coleman (born June 14, 1914), James Henry Coleman (born November 3, 1915), and Jean Wilfred Coleman (born January 9, 1917). According to young Jean, "Mom and Dad courted quite some time. He usually brought candy for us, and left his unspent cigar on the front porch railing. Jean later wrote an essay that was a tribute to his new dad. It was published in the newspaper. According to Jean, Jay Adams was "the greatest dad in the world." Jay not only was committed to his new family, he also financially supported his mother, brother, niece, and two sisters. He was beloved by all who knew him and a pillar of the community. Jay Adams died in 1953. Grace died in 1965.
