Read More	ESSEX LOSES PIONEER Mrs. Alfred Skallberg Dies at Home of Her Daughter Death has taken a great toll from the citizens of Essex, Page County, Iowa and vicinity the last few weeks. And now today, we record the death of Mrs. Alfred Skallberg, aged 67 years, Saturday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Westman. She had been in poor health for some time. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the home and late in the Mission church in Essex, Iowa. Information found in an article from Grandma June's scrap book. MRS. SKALLBERG DIED HERE LAST SATURDAY Mrs. Johanna Augusta Skallberg born Johanna August Johnanesdotter Hart at Smoland, Sweden, February 21, 1863, and passes into the Eternal Rest on April 26, 1930, at Essex, Page County, Iowa, at the age of 67 years, 2 months, and 5 days. Together with her parents she arrived in this land at the age of five years, and grew to womanhood in Page County. Was married to Mr. Alfred Skallberg on March 5, 1884. Her husband passed away on November 1, 1925. To this union were born eight children, four boys and four girls, all living. Left to mourn her passing are the children; John, Paul, Albert, and Melvin, Mrs. William Westman, Mrs. Elmer Almquist, Mrs. Joe Peterson, and Mrs. Paul Rydberg; twenty-four grandchildren, four sisters, Mrs. Alfred Engster and Miss Tenie Hart of Essex, Iowa. Mrs. John Erickson of Wakefield, Nebraska, Mrs. Chas Abraham, Red Oak, Iowa, and four brothers, Alfred, Joe, Oscar, and Otis, who live in California. One brother, Axel preceded her in death. The deceased was formerly a member of the Fremont Mission Church, transferring her membership to the Essex Mission Church on October 19, 1913, of which she remained a faithful member until death. Mrs. Skallberg has been a resident of Essex during the last sixteen years. She was tenderly cared for during her last illness by her children, the last period at the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Westman. The funeral was held last Monday from her former home and at the Essex Mission Church, Rev. H. Hultman officiating. The music was furnished by Mrs. Dave Almquist, and Mrs. Ruben Lindberg, who sand one duet at the home and one number at the Church, and by the Mission Male Quartet, rendering one song at the Church and another at the grave. The pallbearers were, John, Paul, Albert, and Melvin Skallberg, William Westman and Elmer Almquist. Interment was in the Essex Cemetery. W. O. Carson, Mortician in charge of the funeral arrangements.
