He united with our Heavenly Father on April 10, 2013, which was also his 65th wedding anniversary. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Carmel Perry and his sons, Ollie Perry and Thomas Perry. Jack is survived by his wife of 65 years, Carmeta Perry, his sons, John Perry of Lincoln, Tim (Tina) Perry of Fairfax, Va., and Roc (Sheri) Perry of Newcastle, his daughters Nancey Holland of Auburn, Cynthia (Jeff) Brostrom of Auburn, and Therese (Jerry) Willis of Newcastle. He also leaves behind 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Jack attended Placer High School and was active in track and football. He was the 5th graduating class of Placer College in Auburn. He continued his education at UC Berkeley where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree. Shortly after graduating he enlisted in the Navy and served as a Lieutenant with tours in the Pacific and Europe. He was the commander of the USS-LST505 landing on Omaha Beach during the invasion of Normandy. His accounts of serving our country are documented in the Veteran's History Project in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Jack returned home from serving our country and worked in the family's plum ranching business on the Northwestern Ranch in Penryn along with his brother, Herb. He was passionate about farming and ranching which led him to work as an Inspector for the California Fruit Exchange and later as a Regional Sales Manager for the Ortho Division of the Chevron Chemical Company. He was a consultant to the farmers and ranchers in Northern California and Nevada assisting with identification and resolution of problems with their crops. While volunteering as a Troop Leader for the Boy Scouts of America in Auburn, he was introduced to Carmeta Sacchi by a mutual friend, Steve Brown. This arranged blind meeting ultimately resulted in their marriage on April 10, 1948. Together they raised nine children while living in Auburn for several years then moving to a home in Newcastle where the children raised livestock and assisted him in the family business at the Northwestern. He served on the Newcastle Sewer Board where a resident mule was affectionately named after him. Jack was instrumental in passing a bond to build the present Newcastle Elementary School where he served on the Board of Trustees for many, many years. He was involved in the Auburn 20-30 Club where he proudly wore the Easter Bunny costume at the annual egg hunt for the children in the Auburn community. Jack was also a long-standing member of the American Legion of Loomis. Though he was a very stoic man, Jack will be remembered for his witty humor and quick smile. He was a devoted husband and father. He dearly loved his large family with all of his heart and that love was truly reciprocated. He always responded to an "I love you" with a grin and, "I love you more." A viewing will be held at the Chapel of the Hills in Auburn on Monday, April 15, 2013 from 5 p.m to 7 p.m. followed immediately by a Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1162 Lincoln Way in Auburn followed by interment at the Old Auburn Cemetery.
