Description	:	Boone County Democrat July 10, 1908 John G. Ahrens, one of the most prominent farmers of Harrison Township, died suddenly at his home on last Thursday afternoon about 5:00 o'clock. He had been ill but a very few days and his condition was not considered critical until a short time before he passed away. Ahrens, one of the most prominent farmers of Harrison Township, died suddenly at his home on last Thursday afternoon about 5:00 o'clock. He had been ill but a very few days and his condition was not considered critical until a short time before he passed away. The funeral took place Sunday from his late residence at 10 o'clock and came to this city where the funeral services were held at 2 o'clock from the Presbyterian Church, Rev. O.H.L. Mason, conducting the services. The remains were laid to rest in East Linwood cemetery. The odd Fellows, of which he was a member, had charge of the funeral arrangements. A large number of the old neighbors and friends were present to pay their last respect to the dead. The deceased was born in New York, May 15, 1855. When one year of age his parents removed to Rock Island, Illinois. They remained there until 1870 when the family came to Boone County and located on a farm in Dodge Township. On October 10, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Lillie Toepfer. The widow and twelve children survive as follows: Charles, Louis, John, Herman, William, Elmer, Sarah, Sophia, Kate, Lillie, Clara and Mary. Two children are dead (Emma & Martin). The deceased was a member of the Mineral Ridge M.E. church. He was a successful farmer and an honest and substantial citizen. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
