Mr. Jacoby was one of the first settlers there being at that time but six voters in Mill Creek Township, Williams County where he located. His farm has since been set off into Fulton County. West Unity Reporter Obituary Book Page 163, Column 1 Obituary Died at the residence of his son, Fremont Jacoby, Gorham township, Fulton county, Wednesday Sept 21st, John Jacoby, Sr., in the seventy-seventh year of his age. Mr. Jacoby was the son of John and Sallie Jacoby, of Seneca county, N. Y. He was born March 5th, 1822, and came to Fulton county in 1844. June 14, 1846 he was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Severence. To them were born eight children, six of whom survive them, as Mrs. Jacoby passed to the Better World about nine years ago. Mr. Jacoby was one of the pioneers of Fulton county. He came to this country when it was covered for most part with a dense forest where the Indian and wild game roamed and were familiar sights to the early settlers. Mr. Jacoby was an active, energetic man and took a deep interest and an active part in improving and developing the resources of the county in which he lived. He was conspicuous in the late civil war as an ardent patriot seeking the triumph of the Union cause. He was a man of sterling integrity, charitable and generous to the poor and unfortunate. He had a large acquaintance and many friends, who showed their appreciation of him by attending the services in his memory, when his remains were being conveyed to their last resting place. "The memory of the just is blessed." The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church on Friday, Sept 23rd at 11 o'clock, Rev. J. P. Stockton officiating, assisted by Rev. D. Robison and the remains were interred in the new Franklin cemetery. Card of Thanks Mr. and Mrs. Fremont Jacoby desire to extend their thanks to their neighbors and friends for their many favors shown them during their father's late sickness and death.
