He lived there practically his entire life, moving to Minneapolis in 1957, where he resided until his death Tuesday, September 22, in St. Francis Hospital in Wichita. He had been ill and a hospital patient several times during the past few months. John was one of the most prominent farmers of the Ada community throughout the years until his retirement. He was married on January 1, 1911, to Miss Ethel Merryfield, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. G.N. Marryfield of Minneapolis. Four children were born to this union, one of whom, Francis, of Wichita, preceded him in death earlier this year. Surviving him are his widow, Ethel, one son, Deane, of Ada; two daughters, Mrs. Margaret Scheibler, of Bennington, and Mrs. Helen Belt, of Midland, Texas; three brothers, Fred, of Minneapolis; Ben of Bonner Springs; and Alfred of Kansas City, MO; three sisters, May, Mary, and Sara, all of Minneapolis; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and many other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in the Antioch Baptist Church, of Ada, with the Rev. James McIntosh officiating. Keith Bacon sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," with Mrs. G.N. Bacon as pianist. Pallbearers were Rolland Shafer, Chas. Sidener, Colman Parsons, Henry Beichley, Otis Parsons, and Clyde Hogarty. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery, with the Fouts Funeral Home in charge.
