Description	:	SABETHA -- John Ross Moyer, 90, died Monday, Aug. 22, 1994 at a nursing home in Sabetha. He was born Aug. 25, 1903, at Hiawatha, the son of James Ross Moyer and Susanna Barbara Rubert Moyer. He was married to Mary Marjorie Streeter of Hamlin on Aug. 9, 1931. Read More	SABETHA -- John Ross Moyer, 90, died Monday, Aug. 22, 1994 at a nursing home in Sabetha. He was born Aug. 25, 1903, at Hiawatha, the son of James Ross Moyer and Susanna Barbara Rubert Moyer. He was married to Mary Marjorie Streeter of Hamlin on Aug. 9, 1931. Four children were born to this union. Mr. Moyer attended Hiawatha and Willow Grove grade schools, being the third highest scholastically in the county. He graduated from Hiawatha High School, lettering in football and track, and was president of his freshman and senior classes. He received a B.S. degree in agricultural economics at Kansas State Agricultural College. In music, he sang with the College Men's Glee Club, mixed acapella choir, male quartette, church choir and was soloist for newly organized Radio Station K.S.A.C. He later returned to K-State to qualify to teach vocational ag. which he did for several years. After his R.O.T.C. training at K-State, he was commissioned second lieutenant. Later, he joined the Kansas National Guard. He became commanding officer of the Service Battery Second Battalion, 130th Field Artillery, where he became captain. In World War II, he served in the United States and in Europe. Eventually, he returned home to the farm. He helped organize the Brown County Co-op Association and served on the board. He was very active in extension, 4-H, Homer White American Legion Post #66 and the church. He served as president of the Brown County Retired Teachers Association. He retired from farming in 1974. Mr. Moyer was preceded in death by one daughter, Sue Marylin Moyer Bosserman. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie of the home in Sabetha; three children, Sandra Diana and her husband Gail Snyder of Topeka, Dr. John Dirck Moyer and his wife Suzanne of Hingman, Mass. and Jim Barry Moyer and his wife Myrna of Tsawwassen, British Columbia, Canada; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 25, 1994 at 10:30 a.m. at the Hiawatha Presbyterian Church with Reverend Seward officiating. Military services will follow at the church by Homer White American Legion Post #66. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha. Private interment will be held later. The body will lie in state at the Hiawatha Presbyterian church from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Hiawatha Presbyterian Church of the Fountain Villa Nursing Home in Sabetha and sent in care of the Popkess Mortuary, 823 Virginia, Sabetha, Ks. 66534.
