The death of a former Bison area resident, John Walter Vetter, Saturday evening at Lemmon brought sorrow to this community. Mr. Vetter died suddenly of a heart attack while he and Mrs. Vetter were visiting in the Art Rafferty home. He had been a heart patient several years, at times entering the hospital, but recently had been feeling quite well, the family reports. Funeral services were held Wed. January 20, at Calvary Lutheran Church in Lemmon, and interment was made in the Bison Cemetery. The Rev. John Langebough was the officiating pastor. Eldon Jenson was soloist. Pall bearers included, Art Rafferty, Melvin Wilson, Leo Bartell, Joe Ekemo, Al Schweitzer and Morris Wise. John Vetter was born March 2, 1907 at Aberdeen, SD, to Peter Vetter and Mary Burckhard. They moved to Bison to homestead and he was educated here. On Sept. 7, 1931, he was married to Gladys Kopren at Lemmon. They left Bison in 1943 to live at Portland, Oregon two years, to work in the ship yards, then returned to Lemmon where Mr. Vetter opened a barbershop. He retired in 1968. He is survived by his wife, Gladys; one son Leland of Charleston, SC; three grandchildren; his mother Mrs. Mary Vetter, living in Five Counties Nursing Home in Lemmon; five brothers, Steve, Frank, and Adam of Bison; Mark of Woodburn, Oregon; and Louis of Silverton, Oregon; three sisters, Mrs. John (Theresa) Buckmeier, Huron; Mrs. Elwood (Mary Helen) Jacobs of Hubbard, Oregon; and Mrs. Lloyd (Elizabeth) Loughlin of Whitewood. One son preceded him in death. Relatives met the plane in Rapid City, Monday on which the Leland Vetter family came from South Carolina.
