Married to Sarah Jane Rogers July 13, 1896 in Pawnee County, NE. (Pawnee Library, book of obits in Pawnee Republican.) J. A. JACOBS Joseph Andrew Jacobs was the son of Henry Jacobs and Mary E. Jacobs. He was born near Pawnee City, Nebraska, September 8, 1873, and passed away January 2, 1942. He made his home with his parents until a young man. He completed his education at Campbell University, Holton, Kansas. On July 13th, 1896, he was united in marriage to Sadie Rogers, and to this union one daughter, Vera, was born, who passed away in infancy. In 1900, he moved to York, Nebr., where he taught Commercial Law in York College. He also conducted a private class of young people in bookkeeping and penmanship, which became the foundation of York Business College. In 1936 he became engaged in insurance and real estate business in which work he continued for many years. While a young man, he united with the United Brethren church south of Pawnee City. When in Pawnee City he was affiliated with the Methodist church, and again with the United Brethren church at York. After discontinuing his active work in the insurance business, he made his home part of each year in Long Beach, Calif., where he had varied interests. Besides his devoted wife, he leaves to mourn his loss two brothers, B. F. Jacobs, Tacoma, Wash.; G. M. Jacobs, Seattle, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Anna Edgerton, Pawnee City, two brothers preceded him in death. During his lifetime he was affiliated with the Odd Fellows, Elks, Knights of Pythias and Masonic Orders, at one time being Master of the York Masonic Lodge. In the Masonic work, he was Knight Templar, 32nd degree Mason and Shriner. He was a devoted husband, and a friend to all in need. His greatest pleasure was in doing for others, and in making their lives more pleasant in any way possible. He will long be missed by the many who benefited from his acts of kindness.
