Read More	Suggested edit: Joseph Sharp was born January 7, 1865 near Madison, WI, the son of Robert Sharp and Sarah Ringer. When Joseph was a small boy his father moved to a farm near Little York, a village about 3 miles SW of Edgewood, Iowa. He had one brother, Albert Sharp, two half brothers, Allen and John Huey and one half sister, Florence Huey who later married Doc Steele of Edgewood. Joe's mother died when he was 6 years old and his sister Florence took the place of his mother in caring for the home. On December 9, 1883 he was married to Laura L. Tear, and to them were born six children, Earl Sharp who now resides near Edgewood, Claude who died in infancy, Floy D who died during the flu epidemic in 1918, Fern A sharp now living in Elkader, Iowa, Elsie, the wife of K.A. Evans of Emerson, Iowa and Robert who died in 1903 at the age of 3 years. Shortly after his marriage, Joe moved to the eastern part of Nebraska where he homesteaded some virgin land. But he soon returned to Iowa and farmed awhile southwest of Edgewood and later purchased a farm 1 1/2 miles northeast of Edgewood where the family lived until 1900. He them emigrated with his livestock and equipment to Allen, Nebraska for a short time. But the lure of northeast Iowa brought them back again and he purchased a farm 3 1/2 miles southwest of Edgewood which had been his boyhood home. In 1910 he retired from the farm and engaged in the farm implement business in Edgewood in partnership with J.C. Kirk nd later his brother-in-law, H.J. Smith. Later he owned and operated the hardware store with V.J. Collidge, the store now operated by Livingston and Stone. In 1926 he moved back to his farm 5 miles south of Edgewood where he farmed until 1934 when he again retired to his home in Edgewood where he has been until his death on January 30, 1958 at the advanced age of 93 years. On December 9, 1957 Joe and Laura quietly observed their 74th wedding anniversary. But they have both rapidly failed in health during the last four weeks. For several years, Mrs Ethel Bowers faithfully cared for the Sharps in their own home in Edgewood, until her own failing health compelled her to retire. Since April 1957, Mrs Dora Fober has patiently cared for them in their home.
