Description	:	Lewis Clark Berry was son of John Berry of Augusta Co, Virginia and Nancy Claybrook Berry of Kentucky. Lewis Clark married 1st, Catherine H. Defoe, daughter of John Henry Defoe and Matilda Caroline Rothwell Defoe both of Albemarle Co, Virginia. Lewis Clark and Catherine were married on July 20. 1856 in Moniteau Co, Missouri. Lewis Clark also helped to raise his first wife's younger sister, Alice Defoe as well as one of his sister, Mille Berry Isom's son's, Lewis C. Isom. OBIT LEWIS CLARK BERRY CALIFORNIA DEMOCRAT, CALIFORNIA, MO THURSDAY, JANUARY 7, 1909 ISSUE (front pg, col 1) Death of Clark Berry L. C. Berry or Clark Berry as he was more familiarly known, died at the home of his nephew, Mr. L. C. Isom near Jefferson City Friday last. He was buried at Russellville Sunday, under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge. His death was sudden brought about by a stroke of paralysis. He belonged to one of the old prominent pioneer families of Cole Co and was born in that county in 1832, 78 years ago in December past. He was twice married-his second wife having passed away a year or two ago he recently had a sale and was making his home with Mr. Isom at the time of his death. He was a man of strong character, aggressive and zealous in his advocacy of all matters that he espoused-he was scrupiously true to this friends and would stay with them under any and all conditions. For over forty years he has resided in this county-in Burris Fork township and for many years took an active part in politics-generally a delegate from his township to democratic county convention. ...........He was always a strong personal friend of Lewis Reed of Linn township who recently died at Omaha, L. N. Gibson and a host of others, many of whom have preceded him to the great Beyond. We all may have our faults yet Clark Berry was possessed of many good traits of character.
