Description	:	Lillie Jane Waldron was born to Joseph & Elizabeth Waldron. January 03, 1858 in Orwell, Oswego Co. New York. The family moved to Symmes, Hamilton Co, Ohio in 1860 when Lillie was 2 years old. And then on to Indiana She married Hiram Alonzo Gudgeon on June 15, 1880 in Jennings Co. Indiana. Lillie was 22 years old. There were three children from this union, Daisy May, Mary Alice, & Willie Floyd. Willie died at six years of age. On January 26, 1893 Lillie Jane married William Robert Orr in Council Bluffs Iowa. This was the second marriage for William also. He was first married to Ann Olive DeHart. He had two daughters from this union, Pearl Grace & Edith. Ann and William were divorced. Lillie Jane & William Robert had Five children, Marion Douglas, Clyde, Mary Elizabeth Myrtle, Nellie Grace, Hazel Irene. Clyde died when he was 4 days old. The rest lived a good long life. Apparently William Robert had the wonder-lust, as they moved around a lot and he went from job to job. First they move to Iowa where Marion was born. Then to North Vernon, Indiana where Myrtle and Clyde was born. Then to South Bend, Indiana where Nellie was born. Then to Anderson, Indiana where Hazel was born. Then to Old Vernon Indiana, where the family packed up all their belongings into a box car, including the horse and moved to Blackwell Oklahoma. This was Indian territory and the Indians were allowed come to town and shop, but had to leave before the sunset. Of course no liquor was allowed for Indians. Here the farming was totally different from what they were used to. They planted potatoes in February (quite different from farming in Indiana). On this great adventure was Lillie, William Robert, Andy Orr (Williams younger brother) Daisy Gudgeon and her son Chester, Marion, Myrtle, Nellie, Hazel. They stayed here a year or so. They moved to a 444 acre farm near Jonesboro, Arkansas. Here Lillie tried to make a home in the vast prairie of Arkansas. Making a home in this harsh place was difficult to say the least. The creek where they got their water was a ways from the house and one of the chores that had to be done every couple of days was to see that the children took the wagon and all the buckets down to the creek and soak them for a few hours. This had to be done to keep them from falling apart. And to keep the wagon wheels tight, so the spokes wouldn't fall out. It was next to this stream that Lillie would build a fire for hot water and wash the family cloths. The walls in the house had no plaster, just 2x4 walls. Lillie had to paste newspapers on the walls to keep the wind from coming through the cracks. This house was in poor shape and allowed snakes and lizards to creep in under the doors. Here the family got what must have been malaria, they suffered with chills and fever for many months. During one of many storms, Chester (Lillie's grandson) was struck by lightning. Although the little boy was scared, he did not suffer any lasting harm. The family raised peanuts as their main crop. Then the family moved to Iowa, only now they left most of their belongings behind. They rode the train from Arkansas, this time there was no money for a box car. They brought few belongings and few gunny sacks of peanuts that William brought for seed to try and grow in Iowa. Sadly, by the time they got to Iowa the children had eaten most of peanuts. William Robert worked at a carriage factory, a nail mill, and a factory that made wire. Finally he was a contractor for brick, stone & cement work of buildings. On March 17, 1908 William Robert Orr died while at work, he was 48 years old. Apparently he worked for a house mover and while moving a house, it fell off the blocks that was holding it and William Robert was crushed to death. There was no insurance to help Lillie. Now she, at the age of 50 had five children under the age of fifteen to care for. The children worked at odd jobs, and stayed in various farms and homes working as field hands or chore maids. It was a treat when they got to return home for a while. They also stayed at Lillie's brother-in-law's John Orr and his sister Kate's farm. But here also they had many chores to do. Here the children finished school. to the eighth grade. At one time Lillie was admitted to the hospital for a liver ailment. This was a close call. Like her children, Lillie took on many jobs. At one time she worked at a candy factory with her daughter Myrtle. They had to walk three miles to work through very harsh conditions, mud, rain, snow. When they were lucky they would catch a ride with a farmer taking a wagon of produce to market. These were hard times for the family. Lillie took care of her sister Mary Waldron after the death of her Mother Elizabeth in 1900. (I believe Mary was Mildly retarded) Lillie & Mary stayed for years with her daughter Hazel and her family in 1910's & 1920s. Lillie took care of Mary until her death on August 04, 1927 at the age of 69. She was buried in Walnut Hill Cemetery, Council Bluffs, Iowa on August 4, 1927. On the day of her funeral Lillie's Granddaughter Millie Jeffers was born.
