Lorene Friederike Wilhelmine Petersen was born November 28, 1910, in Crawford County, the daughter of Friedrich and Ella (Petersen) Petersen. She received her education in Grant Township No# 3 rural school in Ida County and graduated from Schleswig High School in 1928. She married Elmer Johannes Jessen on May 2, 1929, in Schleswig. Together they farmed in Crawford County, until they retired. She was also employed for 17 years in the hot lunch program at Battle Creek School and performed many duties to include, baking, cooking, nurse, seamstress, counseler and bookkeeper. Elmer preceded her in death on June 18, 1989. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Battle Creek, Ladies Aid Society for 60 years and the Mendit Club for a 50 years. She enjoyed reading, studying the Bible, writing, crocheting, playing cards and dancing. Surviving are two daughters, Murlene (Vincent) Riccitelli of Phoenix, AZ, and LaMae (Kenneth) Hamblen of Omaha, NE; two sons, Murrell (Margaret) Jessen of Dallas, TX, and Arwood Jessen of Battle Creek; 15 grandchildren; 29 step-grandchildren; one sister, Elaine Stromberg of Polk, NE; one sister-in-law, Betty Petersen; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter, Debra Hamblen, one grandson, Kirt Jessen and two brothers, Vernus Petersen and Loren Petersen. (Obituary is unknown)
