Description	:	Lorene Cushing, age 94, of Topeka died at Aldersgate Village on January 25, 2014. She was born April 29, 1919, in Topeka, the daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth Schulmeister. Lorene married Ed Aldrine, Sr., on September 8, 1938, who predeceased her in March 1954. She married Lloyd Anspaugh on October 23, 1957, who predeceased her in January 1986. Read More	Lorene Cushing, age 94, of Topeka died at Aldersgate Village on January 25, 2014. She was born April 29, 1919, in Topeka, the daughter of Joseph & Elizabeth Schulmeister. Lorene married Ed Aldrine, Sr., on September 8, 1938, who predeceased her in March 1954. She married Lloyd Anspaugh on October 23, 1957, who predeceased her in January 1986. After living 73 years in Topeka, she married a long-time family friend, Bob Cushing, on April 25, 1992, and moved to Prairie du Sac WI; where she remained until his death in March 2010. Lorene was also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Albert Schulmeister. Lorene was a union meat wrapper in many Topeka IGA stores in her younger years. While married to Lloyd, she became a true outdoors woman: hunting, fishing, and cooking wild game. She was a wonderful homemaker and an outstanding cook who assisted many who asked for her help in cooking. After raising three boys, she was thrilled to acquire four step-daughters and their children in 1992. After moving to Wisconsin, her new found friends converted her to a Green Bay packers fan. Upon returning to Topeka, Lorene became a member of Christ the King Parish. Survivors include her three sons: Fritz (Peggy) Aldrine, Dallas TX; Ed (Regina) Aldrine, Topeka KS; and Mike (Sharon) Aldrine, Leander TX; four step-daughters: Sharlene Zuhlke, Monroe WI; Barb (Rick) Gruwell, Lodi WI; Karen Cushing, Madison WI; and Joyce (Nathan) Brown, Marshal WI; five grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren. A rosary will be prayed at Kevin Brennan Family Funeral Home, 2801 SW Urish Road, Topeka KS 66614, at 6:00 p.m. Friday with visitation following until 8:00 p.m. Since being baptized, receiving First Holy Communion, and marrying Ed Aldrine, Sr., at St. Joseph's Church, Lorene requested that Mass of Christian Burial be celebrated there. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, at 11:30 a.m., with burial to follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery. The family wished to thank the staff at McCrite plaza, Aldersgate Village, and Grace Hospice for the wonderful care and compassion given to Lorene in her final years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Hospice, 3715 SW 29th Street, Topeka KS 66614, or St. Joseph's Church, 227 SW Van Buren St, Topeka, KS.
