Gardner Mrs. Mabel Scott Gardner, 68, of 417 Woodlawn Avenue, descendant of a Mayflower family, died Thursday night in a hospital at Wichita. She had been a resident of Topeka for the past thirty-one years. Her parents moved to Emporia in the early '70s, and there the three children grew up. Mrs. Garner was graduated from the University of Kansas in 1895, and has since held a life membership in the alumni association. She spent the next eight years in library work in Helena, Mont. This was followed by two years teaching in the Hiawatha and Hutchinson, Kan., schools. On June 30, 1906, she was married to Wilbur Gardner at Lawrence and in 1909 the family moved to Topeka. Since 1910 the home has been at 417 Woodlawn. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Chaldean Club. Surviving are her husband of the home; two sons, Theodore Gardner, Council Grove and William Scott Gardner, Manhattan, and three grandsons. Services will be at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Wall-Diffenderfer Mortuary, with interment in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Dr. Charles M. Sheldon and Dr. Roy Zimmer will conduct the services. The body will lie in state at the mortuary from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. Saturday at the mortuary.
