Hare was born in Cedar county, Iowa, April 16, 1854, and died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jeanette Coleman, in Wichita, Wednesday morning, September 23, 1914. In the spring of 1863, he came with his father to eastern Kansas and they began some improvements toward making a home, but the border ruffian warfare made it impossible for them to remain, locating for a time near Savannah, Andrew county, Missouri, coming to the Solomon Valley in the spring of 1871, settling on a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Glasco. About 1877 he made a trip to Arizona by wagon, accompanied by Phillip Burk, Wm. Rutledge, and Wm. Billingsly. In January 1879 he was married to Margaret Hillhouse. To this union three children were born, Jeannette Coleman of Wichita, Charles L. Hare, also from Wichita and May Henning of Glasco. After living on the farm for some years he moved to Glasco and was postmaster for a number of years and then engaged in mercantile business. In the fall of 1909 he moved to Shelley, Idaho, returning to Glasco in December of 1913 broken in health. He had just completed a fine modern residence and was spending a few weeks with his children in Wichita and taking medical treatment when the end came peacefully yet suddenly. His remains were brought to Glasco and the funeral took place from the family home Sept. 25, at 1 o'clock p.m. conducted by G.S. Smith assisted by the pastor of the M.E. church. A very large gathering of friends showed the esteem in which he was held. The I.O.O.F. had charge and their beautiful burial rites were observed at the grave. The casket was covered with many beautiful floral tributes. A kind husband, loving father, true brother and neighbor has gone. He leaves a wife, two daughters, a son, two brothers, six sisters and a community of friends to mourn his death. Relatives from a distance who were here for the funeral were: C.L. Hare, W.J. Coleman and wife, Wichita; Phillip Burk, Tonkawa, Oklahoma; Carl Goff and wife, Topeka; John White and wife, Delphos; Chris Emmick and family, Miltonvale; M.A. Wall, Kansas City; Carl Sawin, Salina. ********************************************************* Cloud County Cemetery Book, Volume 4, page 184
