She taught school in Jewell before marrying and later sold Avon. She was born Dec. 19, 1903, in Jewell, the daughter of George and Sedema Parsons Jewell. She was a volunteer for the VA hospital and logged more than 1,200 hours of service. She married John A. Gabe on Aug. 26, 1923. He died Feb. 26, 1987. She also was preceded in death by a daughter, Margaret Kathleen Gabe. Survivors include two sons, Vernon D. Gabe, Grand Junction, Colo., and John R. Gabe, Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters, Virginia A. Gabe Horton, Topeka, and Karen K. Gabe Olander, Denver; 10 grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Grace United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Gabe will lie in state after 5 p.m. today at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today. The family suggests memorials to Grace United Methodist Church, 2627 S.W. Western, Topeka, 66611.
