Marjorie was born in Iowa, the younger of the two daughters of Jesse B. & Victoria Anna (Griswold) Wood. Mona C. was the elder of the two daughters. Jesse's occupation was letter carrier. At the time of the 1910 US Federal Census the Wood's had moved from Iowa to Colorado and resided at South Emerson St, Denver, Colorado, USA. The Denver [Colorado] City Directory of 1914 included Miss Marjorie Wood, a student, renting at 1573 S Emerson. The 1915 directory listed Miss Marjorie T Wood as an operator for the phone company, and still renting at 1573 S Emerson Sometime in late 1915 or early 1916, Marjorie traveled west 1300 miles to the small northern California town of Chico, with a population of approximately 5,000. Among Chico's residents were Marjorie's grandparents, Joshua J. & Lucy (Parkhurst) Wood. 28 December 1916, at age 20, Marjorie Tyrell Wood married Charles Baldwin Allwardt, age 24, at Oroville, the county seat of Butte County, California. At the time of their marriage, Marjorie listed her occupation as telephone operator. 1920 US Federal Census included: Head of household - Charles age 27, Spouse - Marjorie, age 23; Charles' occupation is driver. They are living in Hayward, Alameda County, Ca, on the east side of San Francisco Bay. 28 November 1923, Marjorie gave birth to a baby girl, Shirley Ann, in Castro Valley, Ca, further east of San Francisco Bay. 1930 US Federal Census includes the family living in Eden Township in Alameda, CA; Charles, Marjorie and their child, Shirley – age 6. 1940 US Federal Census included: Charles at age 47, his occupation is truck driver. He is the head of household and owner of the family home at 19378 Stanton Ave, Castro Valley, CA. Wife - Marjorie, and their child - Shirley Ann is age 16. 4 October 1946, Charles & Marjorie's daughter, Shirley Ann married Ensign, US Navy, Mark Mitchell at Laurel Methodist Church in Oakland. At the time of their daughter's marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Allwardt home was at 4338 Tompkins Avenue, Oakland of Alameda County. 21 April 1971, Marjorie's husband of 55 years, Charles, passed away due to heart disease at age 78. After Charles death, Marjorie moved to Sugar Land, TX, where her daughter & son-in law and her two grandchildren lived. 2 August 1976, Marjorie passed away in Houston, TX near the Sugar Land home of her daughter's family.
