Walters, died at her home at 403 Kansas avenue, Hiawatha, at 11 o'clock Thursday morning, March 19, 1959. Mrs. Walters was born at Maesteg, Wales, August 23, 1860. She had been bedfast for the past several weeks. Mr. Mrs. Walters have resided in Brown county since their marriage 65 years ago. Surviving are three daughters, Miss Gladys Walters of the home, Mrs. Homer Taylor of Hiawatha and Mrs. Irvin Dannenberg of Hiawatha; two sons, Lloyd Walters of Hiawatha and Wesley Walters of St. Paul, Minn.; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren; a sister, Miss Mary Ann Griffith of Santa Monica, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, March 21 at Meek's chapel by the Rev. Clifton P. Gunnels of the First Baptist church. Mar 26, 1959 Hiawatha Daily World, Page 2: Walters--Martha Griffith Walters was born August 23, 1860, at Maesteg, Wales, to G. M. Griffith and Mary Davies Griffith. She departed this life March 19, 1959, at 11 o'clock at 403 Kansas Avenue in Hiawatha. When a young woman in Wales she accepted Christ as her Saviour. In 1883 she came to America with her parents, brothers and sisters to Los Angeles, Calif. She was married in Los Angeles to John Walters of Hiawatha, Kans., on May 24, 1893. In 1894 they came to Brown county and established a home on a farm northeast of Hiawatha. To this union six children were born, Miss Gladys Walters of the home, Lloyd Walters, Hannah (Mrs. Homer Taylor), Griffith Morgan Walters, who departed this life February 15, 1911, Olwen (Mrs. Irvin Dannenberg) and Wesley Walters of St. Paul, Minn. Four grandchildren survive: Elsie Mae (Mrs. Charles Bailey) of Homestead, Fla., Patricia Sue Walters and Robert Walters of St. Paul, Minn., Roy E. Jones of Hiawatha, Kans., also, four great grandchildren. She is survived by her husband and one sister, Miss Mary Ann Griffith of Santa Monica., Calif. Mrs. Walters enjoyed reading her Bible and knew many hymns by heart. She had many friends because of her kindly ways and gracious hospitality.
