Martin Andrew Nelsen's Obituary Martin A. Nelsen, 86, Missouri Valley, died Dec. 17, 2007 at Longview Home, Missouri Valley, surrounded by his family. Martin Andrew Nelsen was born Nov. 7, 1921 near Shelby to Andrew and Katherine (Claussen) Nelsen. He was raised and attended school in Shelby. In 1942, his family moved to a farm near Logan in Harrison County. Martin was united in marriage to Patricia Jean Leddy, Nov. 5, 1942 in Omaha. In November, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served until March 1946. After his three and one-half year tour of duty, the couple returned to farm near Logan. In 1948, they moved to a farm in Minnesota, and in 1954 returned again to a farm north of Logan. They later lived in Missouri Valley for a number of years, moved to Logan, where they resided for 25 years eventually returning to Missouri Valley. During his lifetime, in addition to farming, Martin worked at Vickers and operated several owner/operator businesses, concluding with his plumbing and heating business, before retiring. Upon retirement, Martin enjoyed making woodcrafts, yard art and gardening. Martin was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Missouri Valley. Martin was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Patty; brother, Clarence; sisters, Edna and Agnes; and son, Mark. Survivors include: his daughter-in-law, Chris Nelsen, Council Bluffs; son Blake and his wife, Lynn, Council Bluffs; daughter Kay Mocha and her husband, Bob, Missouri Valley; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services were held Dec. 21 at the First Lutheran Church, Missouri Valley, Pastor Ray Smith, officiant. Organist was Carol Geerdes. Casket Bearers were: Jim Mocha, Brian Hansen, Don McIntosh, Roy Mocha, Bob Michael, and Dean McIntosh. Interment was in the Branson Cemetery near Loveland. Military Honors were conducted by Julius F. Muller Post No. 337, American Legion. Hennessey-Aman Funeral Home, Missouri Valley, was in charge of arrangements.
