Mr. Osterman was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herman Osterman, pioneer residents of the Eagle Creek section near Big Sandy. The father came to Montana in 1885, and in the spring of 1889 walked to Big Sandy, settling on Eagle Creek late that year. He married Elizabeth Jarmuth in 1898. The parents died in 1961 and 1963. ... Authorities said the rancher's son, Marvin Jr. had left the ranch on his way to Big Sandy. His parents a few moments later discovered a package they wanted delivered in Big Sandy, and were attempting to overtake the son when the accident happened. The accident occurred 20 miles southeast of Big Sandy on a country road when the truck plunged across an access road and slammed into the borrow pit. The rancher was pinned against the side of the bank by the truck. His wife Ida, riding with him, suffered cuts and bruises and was taken to the Big Sandy hospital. Her condition was not believed serious.
