Description	:	Mary Ann Pelzer Wager, age 97, of Council Bluffs, passed away January 29, 2018, at her home. Mary Ann was born August 17, 1920, in Omaha, Neb., to the late John F. and Kathryn A. (Devitt) Pelzer. She moved to Council Bluffs in 1923, and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1938 and from the College of St. Mary in 1940. Mary Ann taught country school in Neola, Iowa, for 2 years; worked at Howard Manufacturing Defense Plant during WWII and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1980 after 35 years of service. She married LaVere A.... Read More	Mary Ann Pelzer Wager, age 97, of Council Bluffs, passed away January 29, 2018, at her home. Mary Ann was born August 17, 1920, in Omaha, Neb., to the late John F. and Kathryn A. (Devitt) Pelzer. She moved to Council Bluffs in 1923, and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1938 and from the College of St. Mary in 1940. Mary Ann taught country school in Neola, Iowa, for 2 years; worked at Howard Manufacturing Defense Plant during WWII and retired from the Union Pacific Railroad in 1980 after 35 years of service. She married LaVere A. Wager on October 16, 1954. Mary Ann was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and volunteered there for 18 years. She was a lector from the time lay lectors began until 2009, and member of the Altar & Rosary Society. Mary Ann also led the Prayer Chain, taking prayer requests for many years. In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, LaVere A. Wager in 2003; brother, Patrick Pelzer; sisters, Frances Emarine and Elizabeth Schmidt; nephews, John, Stephen and Donald Emarine, Fred Wager; nieces, Mary Frances Pelzer and Kathryn Pelzer. Mary Ann is survived by her nieces and nephews, Mary Anne (Terry) Lancial, David (Cathy) Emarine, Michael Emarine, Teresa Powers, Fran Sleighel, Patrick Pelzer, Ann Marie Borne, Joseph Schmidt, Mark (Linda) Schmidt, Paul (s.o., Melissa McLeod) Schmidt, Jan (Arthur Rivers) Schmidt, Miriam (David) Austin, Catherine Schmidt, Terry Wager, Mary Lou (Pete) Perez, Gary Wager, Kathy Smith, Marilyn Wager; brother-in-law, Al Wager; and many other family members and friends. Wake service, Friday, 5 p.m., followed by visitation with the family until 7 p.m., at Cutler-O’Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, 10 a.m., at St. Francis Worship Center. Interment St. Joseph Cemetery with a lunch following at the Walnut Hill Reception Center, 1350 E.
