MI, their entire married life was spent in Buchanan, MI. --------------------------------- Darwin and Mary Ann celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 1945. ---------------------------------- Darwin had been engaged in farming before he operated a grocery store in Buchanan, MI for a number of years. Darwin died on Feb. 8, 1957 at the age of 100 years. ---------------------------------- The five children of Mary Ann Tomlinson and Darwin DeWitt Pangborn are: ------------------------------ 1. Foreman are living in Elkhart, IN. Children: Mary E., Francis D., and Frank Foreman. m. # 2. Raymond Eby. d. July of 1984, in Elkhart, Elkhart County Indiana. (Women's Christian Temperance Union), and a member of the Evangelical church. --------------------------------- "The Herald Press" newspaper, in St. Joseph, Michigan, published the following article on Friday, July 27, 1945, page two: --- Mrs. Mary Pangborn Of Buchanan To Celebrate 89th Birthday Sunday. Buchanan, July 27 - Mrs. Mary Pangborn, a native of Buchanan township, will celebrate her 89th birthday Sunday at a dinner in her home at 106 North Fourth Street. She was born in a log cabin about three miles north of Buchanan, on July 29, 1856, the daughter of Albert and Lucinda Tomlinson who settled there in 1853. Her father, a blacksmith, cleared a place in the forest and set up a forge where he did wagon and tool repairing. A neighbor boy Darwin D. Pangborn came to call on Mary Tomlinson nearly 7 decades ago and on Mar. 10, 1880 they were married. Last March they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary Mrs. Pangborn is in good health and is active in W.C.T.U. and church work. She is a charter member of the W.C.T.U. Her hobby is quilts and she has made several doll quilts during the last year for her great grandchildren. She has four children, 19 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren. Out of town guests at the dinner Sunday will be the Milton Humbles of Chicago, and the Roy Hawkins of South Bend. --------------------------------- Mary Ann died at her home in Buchanan, MI., at the age of 90, following a six month illness. ---------------------------------- The obituary for Mary Ann Pangborn was published in the "Niles Daily Star" newspaper, in Niles, Michigan on Sat. Oct. 19, 1946, page 2. It reads as follows: -------------------- Mrs. Mary Pangborn, 90, Dies Friday at Her Buchanan Home. Buchanan, Oct. 19 - Mrs. Mary Ann Pangborn, 90, died at 8:05 p.m. Friday at her home following a six months illness. She was a native of Buchanan township, born July 29, 1856, a daughter of Albert and Lucinda Tomlinson. She married Darwin D. Pangborn March 10, 1888 [1880], in Buchanan [MI]. Mrs. Pangborn was a charter member of the Buchanan chapter of the WCTU and a member of the Evangelical church for a number of years. Surviving, besides her husband, are a son, A. O. Pangborn, Buchanan; three daughters, Mrs. Grace Nutt, Dearborn; Mrs. Alice Fowler, Big Rapids, [MI]; and Mrs. Zoa Foreman, who lived with the parents. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren. Services will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Evangelical church with the Rev. Raymond H. Kretzchmer officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Ridge cemetery. The body is at the Swem funeral home, but will be taken to the residence Sunday noon when friends may call. ----------------------------------- The obituary for Darwin D.
