Kelley. `````````````````````````` Ulysses Dispatch (Ulysses, Nebr.), February 28, 1928, p. 1, col. 3 OBITUARY Mary Mungovan was born in Clare county Ireland, September 12, 1837. When 12 years old, she came to this country with her parents, brother and sister. She was married to Stephen Considin at Owega, N.Y., in 1854. They moved westward to Pennsylvania, afterward living in Chicago which, at that time was the size of Ulysses, later living at Rock Island, Ills., Davenport, Ia., Elkhorn and Lincoln, Nebr. They settled on a homestead near Friend, in 1872, the country then being dotted with sod houses, the grasshoppers came in clouds and Indians were frequent visitors. In December, 1873 her husband was killed in a railroad accident and she was left to rear the family of small children which she did lovingly faithfully and well, and her children arise and call her blessed. She and the children removed to Ulysses in 1881. She was married to John McGowen in 1890, who passed away eleven years later. She then spent her remaining years with relatives at David City, York and Ulysses. She leaves to mourn her passing, 3 children: James Considine, Billings, Montana, P. J. Considine, David City and Mrs. Wm. Coyne of near Ulysses, also several grand children. There are also four step-children, George McGowen, of Greeley, James McGowen of Schuyler, Mrs. Susan Gibb and Mrs. Mary Kelly of Ulysses together with a host of friends who unite in extending sincere condolence to the sorrowing relatives. Truly, a good woman has gone to her reward. Mrs. McGowen was a sincere Catholic, a loving mother and kind friend to all who were in need. She became very ill in November and though she received medical attention coupled with loving care from many neighbors and friends, the C. D. of A. being in constant attendance at her bedside, yet, she succumbed to her ninety years and passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Coyle, on February 13, 1928. The funeral services were held at the Catholic church on Wednesday morning, Feb. 15, and were conducted by her pastor, the Rev. J. J. Loughran, who celebrated High Mass for the repose of her soul, many old friends being present to pay the last respect. Interment was made by the side of her late husband, John McGowen in the Catholic cemetery. Eternal Rest grant unto her, O Lord and may light perpetuatal shine upon her. - E. B. L.
