Description	:	Martha Ellen Bestwick was born August 25, 1872, at the farm home of her parents Julia and James Bestwick in the state of Nebraska near the Kansas line. She was affectionately called Mattie many years. She died January 24 (1962) at the St. Anthony hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. She was married to Harvey Burgett of Middlebury, Nebr., on June 1, 1892, at Seneca Kans. Soon after their marriage they moved to Sabetha where she has since made her home. She was affectionately called Mattie many years. She died January 24 (1962) at the St. Anthony hospital where she had been a patient for several weeks. She was married to Harvey Burgett of Middlebury, Nebr., on June 1, 1892, at Seneca Kans. Soon after their marriage they moved to Sabetha where she has since made her home. Mr. Burgett passed away May 31, 1943, and Mrs. Burgett continued to maintain her home here. One son, Vernon B. Burgett, was born to this union. His home is in Pasadena, Calif. One grandson, David Burgett also lives in Pasadena. Mrs. Burgett has been a member of the First Baptist Church for many years and in her younger years had taught a class of young men. She was a good neighbor and she enjoyed the fellowship of her neighbors. Besides her son she is survived by one Brother, John Bestwick of Wamego, Kans.; three sisters, Mrs. Fred Deaver and Mrs. M.A. Walton of Sabetha and Mrs. Charles McKim of St. Helena, Ore. Memorial services were held Friday, Jan. 26, at 2:00 p.m. at the Popkess Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Stanley Black. Mrs. W.R. Popkess played favorite hymns on the organ. Casket bearers were Melvin Deaver, Ray Deaver, Paul Landreth and James Landreth both of Axtell, Kans., George Fowler and Bernard Wiltz. Burial was in the Sabetha cemetery.
