Description	:	Maude Rhudy was the first child of Mr. and Mrs. John G. Rhudy, early day pioneers of Elbert County who were natives of St. Joseph MO. She was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on July 13, 1882 where Mr. Rhudy was engaged in a freighting business. Prior to that he had been a pony express rider in the Wyoming Terrirory. She was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado, on July 13, 1882 where Mr. Rhudy was engaged in a freighting business. Prior to that he had been a pony express rider in the Wyoming Terrirory. Soon after her birth, the family moved to a ranch west of Elbert. Maude spent her childhood there with a sister and two brothers. She was educated at the James School in that area. On Dec 19, 1900 , she and Joseph C. Brazelton of Elbert were married. All the years of their marriage were spent in the Elbert community. Mr. Brazelton died there in 1949. Mrs. Brazelton was an active member of the Lincoln Community Club and for many years served as secretary of the Elbert Grange. She was interested in community and school affairs. In her younger years she often accompanied Dr. Denny to help deliver babies and to care for the sick. In 1962, following the death of her son Jack, who had made his home with her, she left Elbert and moved to Greeley to live with the Harrisons. While visiting with the Weisses at Christmas time in 1975, she fell and never fully recovered. The last two years of her life, she resided at Fair Acres Nursing Home in Greeley where she received excellent care and was a pleasant inspiration to other patients. When an epidemic of flu swept through the nursing home she becam ill, pneumonia developed and she died there on Feb 11. She was 95 years old. Funeral services were held in the Elbert Christian Church on Feb. 14 and as was her wish, Rev. Lis Bowers of First Christian Church of Greeley officiated and six gradsons were pall bearers. She was laid to rest beside her husband and son in the Elbert Cemetery on a quiet and lovely spring like day.
