Description	:	Max H. Hoger was born on the home farm about 7 miles north of Judson, June 2, 1910 to Edmund and Anna Hoger. There was no doctor present at the birth. He spent his childhood and school years on the farm just across the road from the Mars School 4. It was a one room school with one teacher. Read More	Max H. Hoger was born on the home farm about 7 miles north of Judson, June 2, 1910 to Edmund and Anna Hoger. There was no doctor present at the birth. He spent his childhood and school years on the farm just across the road from the Mars School 4. It was a one room school with one teacher. After finishing the eighth grade, he worked with his brother, Oscar on the same farm. His parents moved to New Salem when he was 18 years old. June 8. 1937, he married Helen Bumann, daughter of August and Louise Bumann, at Glendive, Montana. They made their home in a two room house on the Oscar Hoger farm for two years. In 1939 the small house was moved one mile north to start a farm of our own. Max and Helen had 4 children: Donna Mae was born on Sept. 17, 1938; Daniel Wayne was born October 2,1940; David Keith was born September 12,1943; and Gregory Lee, was born September 22, 1952. Max worked as a carpenter after moving to New Salem, then as manager for the Farmers Union Lumber Co. in 1970. In December of 1972 he retired and did odd jobs. In 1975 he became ill with cancer and after long stays in the hospital, he passed away March 20, 1977. Max Hoger Rites Held Here Friday Funeral services for Max Hoger, 66, will held today (Wednesday) from Peace United Church of Christ with the Rev. Wm. Smith officiating. Mr Hoger passed away March 20 at a Bismarch hospital. Pallbearers are Glyn Hoger, Dennis Hoger, Harold Wolf, Lawrence Hoger, Herman Wolf, and Herbert Reuther. Burial will be made in Peace Cemetery. He was born June 2, 1910 to Mr. and Mrs. Edmund Hoger. On June 8, 1937, he married Helen Bumann at Glendive, Mont. He farmed 13 miles northeast of New Salem until 1963 when he moved into New Salem and worked as a carpenter until 1968, when he began managing the Farmers Union Lumber Co. until his retirement in 1972. He was a member of Peace United Church of Christ. Surviving are his wife, Helen; four children: Mrs. Melvin (Donna) Steele, Denver, Colo.; Daniel Hoger, New Salem; S. Sgt. David Hoger with the U. S. A. in Fort Sill, Okla.; Gregory Hoger, Bismarck; and 10 grand children. Brothers and sisters include: Carl, Arno and Oscar, New Salem: Mrs. Antonia Wolf, New Salem; Mrs. Martha Reuther, Bismarck; Mrs. Ernest Wolf, Mandan and Mrs. Marion Orr, Ypsilanti, ND.
