Somers, one of the builders of Crisfield, died at his home in the Jacksonville section of this community on Wednesday last. Somers, a member of one of Somerset's pioneer families and a son of the late Michael A. Somers, one of the builders of Crisfield, died at his home in the Jacksonville section of this community on Wednesday last. Death was due to stomach trouble from which the deceased had suffered for several months. He was 55 years of age. Mr. Somers was a gentleman of fine qualities and was respected and esteemed throughout the county. As a young man he completed a course at a Baltimore business college, and later became a Pharmaceutical student and was associated with his brother, Dr. J. F. Somers, in the drug business. Failing health, however, compelled him to seek a different field of labor and for several years he had been engaged in agricultural pursuits. Mr. Somers was a lifelong Democrat and was connected with the clerical force of the Comptroller's office when Dr. Gordon T. Atkinson was State Comptroller. In 1915 he was the Democratic candidate for Register of Wills but was defeated by a small majority while the rest of the ticket went down with heavy majorities. In 1919 he was nominated as the Democratic candidate for County Commissioner but retired from the ticket because of the condition of his health. Mr. Somers was quiet and unassuming and a true type of high grade citizenship. He was a consistent Christian, and a member of the Eastern Shore Council, Jr., O. U. A . M., who participated in the funeral services which were held at Immanuel M. E. Church yesterday, Friday afternoon. Interment was at Mariners. The deceased is survived by a widow, Mrs. Annie Somers, daughter of Smith Ward, and by the following children: Dr. Grover Somers of Marion, Miss Hazel Somers and Mr. Milton Somers of Washington, and Mr. Irving Somers of Crisfield. He also leave the following brothers: Dr. J. F. Somers, Messrs. John, Charles, George and Bates Somers, all of this community.
