Miss Murphy was born August 9, 1911, in Ida Grove, the daughter of William and Barbara (Brechwald) Murphy. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1930, then employed as a secretary in her uncle’s abstracting office. In 1944, she enlisted in the Women’s Army Corp, where she served in the administration field during her 20-year career, which included two overseas assignments. She retried from the military in 1964, and returned to Ida Grove. She then was employed with the Chamber of Commerce retiring in 1975. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and American Legion McNamara-Moore Post 61. Survivors include two brothers, Francis Murphy of Tucson, Arizona and Theodore Murphy of Ida Grove and ten nieces and nephews. Shed was preceded in death by three brothers, Bernard, John and Desmond and three nephews. According to the 1920, 1930 and 1940 US Federal Censuses, the Iowa Birth Index, the US WWII Enlistment Records, the Iowa World War II Bonus Records, Social Security Death Index, US Public Records and the US Department of Veterans Affairs, Agnes Murphy was born August 9, 1911 at Ida Grove, Iowa. Agnes Murphy was the third member of the Will Murphy family to join the Military services. She joined the WACs at Sioux City, Iowa, after working in the abstract and law offices of J. A. Murphy for 11 years. She then reported for duty at the WAC training station at Des Moines, Iowa. Pvt. Murphy had two brothers, Capt. Theo Murphy and Warrant Officer Francis Murphy who saw plenty of action with the 34th Medical division in Italy.
