Returning from a mission over Yawata Kyoto, Japan, the bomber collided with a mountain cliff, southeast of Guanghan, China, attempting to reach airfield A-3. The nighttime crash claimed the lives of ten of the eleven-man crew. The air crew killed were: Maj. Charles E Hansen, Pilot 1st Lt. Harold H Heinbaugh, Co-Pilot Capt.
