Yingling, 94, early Thursday morning, May 5, 2011, at the home of her son and daughter in law, Charles & Trudy, in Winfield, Kansas. Nilah was born south and east of Fairview, Kansas, September 12, 1916. She was one of eight children born to Charles and Edna Sewell Van Dalsem. Yingling, 94, early Thursday morning, May 5, 2011, at the home of her son and daughter in law, Charles & Trudy, in Winfield, Kansas. Nilah was born south and east of Fairview, Kansas, September 12, 1916. She was one of eight children born to Charles and Edna Sewell Van Dalsem. Nilah grew up in the Hiawatha area and graduated from Hiawatha High School in 1935. She worked for A.P. Hass Jewelry Store, McLellan Dime Store, and Ben Franklin for 30 years, retiring in 1986. She was baptized into the First Christian Church in Hiawatha on April 1, 1951 and has been a member ever since. She served as a Deaconess for several years. When her children were growing up, she helped with bible school. Also, she was a Cub Scout den mother for 5 years. Nilah also was a member of the VFW #5210 Auxiliary, and the Women's DWF of the Church. Her interests included crafts and quilt making, making quilts for all of her grandchildren. She and Orley loved to camp and had several campers they camped with through the years. She was married to Orley L. Yingling, December 25, 1941, in Hiawatha at the Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church parsonage. To this union, three children were born; Charles, James, and Cheryl. Survivors are Charles and wife Trudy of Winfield, James and wife Gayla of Gladstone, Missouri, Cheryl and husband Bill of Winfield; thirteen grandchildren; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Nilah was also preceded in death by her parents; husband Orley, five sisters; Bernice Fields, Ona Van Dalsem, Mary Kern, Norma Cashman, Florence Abbott; and a brother William Van Dalsem. Funeral services are planned for 2:30 p.m. Monday, May 9, at First Christian Church in Hiawatha with Pastor Bill Worcester officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Hiawatha. Friends may call at the Chapel Oaks Funeral Home after 2 p.m. Sunday, where the family will meet from 6 until 7:30 that evening. Memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church Memorial Fund or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, which may be sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
