Description	:	Nina Mae Bruce, the daughter of Wilford and Aley (Richardson) Porter, was born on April 21, 1902 at Lewiston, Nebraska. She passed away on May 6, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 101 years and 15 days. Read More	Nina Mae Bruce, the daughter of Wilford and Aley (Richardson) Porter, was born on April 21, 1902 at Lewiston, Nebraska. She passed away on May 6, 2003 at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska at the age of 101 years and 15 days. After Nina's family moved to this area, she attended school at Pleasant Ridge, District 52, two miles west of Nelson, though the eighth grade. Before she was married she taught piano lessons to the neighborhood children in their homes. She would travel there by horse and buggy. On October 24, 1928 she was united in marriage to Guy Bruce in Nelson, Nebraska. Together they lived on a farm north of Nelson until 1936 when they moved to town. Nina was a homemaker and especially enjoyed cooking. She cared for her mother in her home for 22 years. Nina enjoyed visits from her family. She is lovingly called "Aunt Toots" by many. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church in Nelson where she was active and sang in the choir for many years until it was disbanded and she was currently a member of the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband Guy on August 20, 1991, 2 brothers, Owen Pierce Porter and Wilford Raymond Porter and 3 sisters, Nora Marie Troudt, Velma Irene McKevitt and Frieda Ann Porter. Survivors include sister-in-laws Lila Bruce of Santa Monica, California and Leona Porter on (sic) Nelson, Nebraska, nieces, nephews other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were held on Monday, May 12, 2003 at 10:00 AM from the Nelson Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska with Rev. Dr. Ralph Sturdy officiating. Music was an organ solo "In The Garden" and congregational hymns, "How Great Thou Art", with Robert C. Bruce as organist. Pallbearers were Ronald Porter, Darrell Jensen, George Jensen, Don O'Dey, Dan Shaw, Doug Porter. Honorary Pallbearers were Wayne Porter, Robert Bruce, Ray Shaw and John Bruce. Eastern Star services were conducted by the Nelson Eastern Star Chapter 27. Interment was in the Nelson Cemetery at Nelson, Nebraska. Memorials may go in care of the Nelson United Community Church of Christ or the Nelson Good Samaritan Center. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska was in charge of the arrangements.
