She passed away Thursday, March 5, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Nelson, Nebraska, at the age of 98 years and 21 days. Marie moved with her family to Nelson in 1905, return to Lewiston in 1907 and moved back to Nelson in 1909. She attended Pleasant Ridge Rural School, completing eight grades. In 1921 Marie married Edward Troudt at the Christian Church parsonage in Nelson. This union was blessed with five daughters. The couple lived on a farm west of Nelson until moving to Nelson in 1943. Marie was a loving, caring mother and wife. Her family was her life. She will long be remembered for her chocolate chip cookies, lemon pie and homemade bread and rolls. She enjoyed any family gatherings, especially Christian Women's luncheons, shopping outings, and birthdays and holidays shared. She was a 40-year member of the Oak Community Church in Oak, Nebraska. Marie was a devout christian who lived her faith daily. They attended and led many Bible studies, prayer meetings and Child Evangelism. A motto Marie lived and shared with her family was: "If you worry about it, pray about it. If you pray about it, don't worry about it." Preceding her in death were her husband, Edward, on June 4, 1981; a daughter, Doris Maxine Oltmans; a son-in-law, Paul Knehans; two grandsons, Kenneth Knehans and Craig Follmer; two brothers, Owen Pierce Porter and Wilford Raymond Porter; and two sisters, Velma McKevitt and Frieda Porter. Survivors include four daughters, Uyvonne Knehans and Muriel Follmer and her husband Don, all of Nelson, Nebraska, Marlys Jensen and her husband George of Mankato, Kansas, and Donna Jensen and her husband Darrell of Superior, Nebraska; one sister, Nine Mae Bruce, and a sister-in-law, Leona Porter, both of Nelson, Nebraska; 16 grandchildren, Roger Knehans and his wife Mary of Strawberry Point, Iowa, Sharon Turner of Nelson, Nebraska, Gary Follmer and his wife Shirley of Superior, Nebraska, Dennis Follmer and his wife Kathy of Davenport, Nebraska, Diane Krieser and her husband Clark of Seward, Nebraska, Mike Follmer and his wife Linda of Grand Island, Nebraska, Brenda Awsiukiewicz and her husband Larry, Shelley Kienow and her husband Scott, all of Omaha, Nebraska, Mark Follmer and his wife Lyn, and Gayle Follmer, all of Lincoln, Nebraska, Debra Boyles and her husband Marvin of Mankato, Kansas, Jay Jensen and his wife Angie of Lindsborg, Kansas, Kevin Jensen and his wife Kathy of Hingham, Massachusetts, Janae Jensen of the home, Curtis Jensen and his wife Jane of Superior, Nebraska, and Brent Jensen and his wife Cheryl of Oak, Nebraska; 28 great grandchildren; and four step great grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, March 9, 1998, at 2 p.m., at the Community United Church of Christ in Nelson, Nebraska, with Rev. Leslie Warner officiating. Music was "On Eagles Wings" and "One Day At A Time", with Corina Krieser as soloist. Congregational hym was "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", with Carlita Price as organist. Pallbearers were grandsons, Roger Knehans, Gary Follmer, Mike Follmer, Dennis Follmer, Mark Follmer, Jay Jensen, Kevin Jensen, Curtis Jensen and Brent Jensen. Honorary pallbearers were granddaughters, Sharon Turner, Diane Krieser, Brenda Awsiukiewicz, Gayle Follmer, Shelley Knienow, Debra Boyles and Janae Jensen. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery. Klawitter-Price Funeral Home of Nelson, Nebraska, was in charge of the arrangements.
