Description	:	Nuel Wilbur Burgess, 65, of New London, Iowa, and formerly of Onawa, died on December 31, 1989, at a hospital in Burlington, Iowa, after a lingering illness. He was born February 27, 1924, at Oto, Iowa, to Fred G. and Olive Lorraine (Stratton) Burgess. Mr. Burgess entered the U. S. Navy on March 10, 1941, at Sioux City, Iowa. Read More	Nuel Wilbur Burgess, 65, of New London, Iowa, and formerly of Onawa, died on December 31, 1989, at a hospital in Burlington, Iowa, after a lingering illness. He was born February 27, 1924, at Oto, Iowa, to Fred G. and Olive Lorraine (Stratton) Burgess. Mr. Burgess entered the U. S. Navy on March 10, 1941, at Sioux City, Iowa. He was overseas from June 11, 1941 to January 2, 1947. He was discharged March 12, 1947 at San Francisco, California. His rank was Quartermaster First Class. Upon returning home, he worked at various jobs before he started working for Metro Area Transit, where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 1982 due to health issues. Survivors include: his wife, Patricia; four daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Janet) Baxter, Mrs. Don (Kristine) Harrill, Mrs. Don (Denise) Luttrell and Tina Burgess; four sons, Stanley Burgess, Randall Burgess, Jeff and Greg Burgess; three brothers, Walter of Whiting, Iowa, Dean of Princeton, Illinois, and George Burgess of San Manual, Arizona; five sisters, Mrs. William (Bonnie) Miller of Deer River, Minnesota, Mrs. Morris (Louise) Larson, Mrs. Carl (Florence) Davis of Sioux City, Mrs. George (Helen) Norris of Junction City, Kansas and Mrs. Thaddeus (Ruby) Allen of Onawa; and 13 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Randy Gale and Darrell Duane. Funeral services were held January 4, 1990, at McCurdy Chapel in Council Bluffs at 3:00 p.m. with Dr. E. A. Hering officiating. The organist and singer was Russell Clark. He sang, "Life's Railway to Heaven" and "The Old Rugged Cross" and "In The Garden." Pallbearers were Jerry Beckner, Bob Cooper, Gary Gibbs, Bill Brego, Roger Mohr, Frank Grego, Jack Kilibarda. Interment was in Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Council Bl.uffs with V. F. W.
