Description | : | Oliver Jones was born into a farming family in rural Pickens County. He was the oldest of 10 children. Oliver enlisted as a private into the famous South Carolina 2nd Rifles of the Army of Northern Virginia. He served with Bratton's Brigade. On Sept. 30, 1864, he participated in a valiant but ill fated charge at the Second Battle of Ft. Harrison. I mini ball wound required later amputation of his right leg at the thigh.
