Married to Myrtle Ruby Cathey (later remarried as Mrs. Maurice Doyle). --------------------------- Note: full obituary transcription entered July 10, 2019: Fairfield Ledger Thursday April 21, 1949 Pg. 8 Col. 1 DEATH TAKES OMAR CATHEY A Fairfield man who served in the armed forces overseas during World War I passed away at the veterans hospital in Des Moines at 4:30 p.m. yesterday. He is Omar K. Cathey, 56, who had been seriously ill for the past three months. Last rites, with military services, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The Fairfield Legion and V.F.W. posts will have charge of the military services. Mr. Cathey had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 30 years, and for the past 10 years had been employed as salesman at the Zillman Motor company. The family home is located at 403 North B street. Omar K. Cathey was born March 26, 1893, at Martinsburg, Iowa, the son of William K. and Per Melia WeeKs Cathey (sic). He was united in marriage at Fairfield on December 21, 1921, to Myrtle Ruby who survives. Mr. Cathey was a member of the Packwood Methodist church, the Fairfield American Legion Post and the local Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred Allman, Eldon; Mrs. Nels Nelson, Fairfield; and Mrs. Donald Hickenbottom, Stockport; three sons, Franks, Omar, Jr., and Robert Cathey, all at home; and three grandchildren. Mr. Cathey is also survived by one brother, Tom, Mt. Pleasant; and three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd Caviness, East Moline; Mrs. Lloyd Morrow, Fairfield, and Mrs. E.R. Donovan, Fairfield. ------------------------ Fairfield Daily Ledger-Journal Thursday December 22, 1921 Pg. 4 Col. 1 & 2 CATHEY-RUBY WED YESTERDA (sic. YESTERDAY) A very pretty home wedding took place Wednesday afternoon, when Miss Myrtle I. Ruby of Stockport, Iowa, was joined in marriage to Omar Cathey, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Cathey, 307 West Jefferson street. Promptly at four o'clock the young couple attented (sic. attended) by Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruby of Stockport, took their places under a large white ball which hung in a beautiful arch decorated with white and silver. Here Rev. W. C. Monroe, the officiating minister met them and with a very simple ring service took their vows and pronounced them husband and wife. After the congratulations by the relatives and friends present, the guests were ushered to the dining room where the wedding dinner was served. The bride looked very attractive in white silk crepe over a pale blue satin dress. She is the accomplished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruby of Stockport, Iowa, and has for the last three years been one of the teachers of the Stockport school. She is exceedingly popular in her home town. Mr. Cathey was born and raised in Jefferson county. During the world war he served in the U.S. navy for two years and was stationed in Pasille (sic. spelling ??), France. Since his return he has been associated with his father in business in Fairfield. Mr. and Mrs. Cathey will make their home on a farm near Stockport. The out of town guests were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Ruby, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ruby, Stockport, Joe Ruby, Canada, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Morrow and son, Billie, Washington, Iowa, and Wm. H. Worwick, Toledo, Ohio.
