Funeral services will be held at the Immaculate Conception church in Fort Benton Thursday morning at 10 a.m. Paul, the son of Paul and Eliza Schoonover, was born at Stafford City, Kansas, on March 16, 1888. In 1913 he was united in marriage to Miss Nettie Coughlin and at that time came to Montana where they homesteaded in the Goosebill area. In 1914 they moved into Fort Benton and since that time have resided here. Paul Schoonover was city marshall of Fort Benton for 30 years, retiring from that position in 1957. For the next several years he was employed at the Chouteau House. He was widely known to a couple generations of youngsters in particular, not as "the law" but for his interest in sports and their activities. He was especially interested in baseball and in earlier years promoted several boys' baseball teams. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters. He leaves to mourn his passing his wife; two sons, Francis, of Loma, and Phil, of Fort Benton; three daughters, Mrs. Natalie O'Reilly, Albany, Calif.; Mrs. Carol Price and Mrs. Dixie Lusin, both of Fort Benton; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
