McWhirter was born March 3, 1896, in Jefferson county, the son of Robert P. (sic. L) and Sarah Crawford McWhirter. He was reared and educated in Jefferson county and married Sept. 28, 1922, to Mary McCormick who survives. The wedding took place at Fairfield. McWhirter lived his entire life in Jefferson county. He was a retired farmer, moving to Fairfield four years ago. He was a member of the Presbyterian church. In addition to his wife he is survived by three sons, Wilbur, Birmingham; Rodger, Waukegan, Ill.; and Edward, Fairfield. Survivors also include 11 grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Guy Fry, Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and two grandchildren.
