Deaths SHANNON — Ray P. Shannon, 94, Hiawatha, died Tuesday afternoon, March 8, 1977, at the Brown County Infirmary, where he had been a resident for the past 20 days. He was born November 2, 188_ on a farm west of Hiawatha, the son of Robert and Susan Besse Shannon and farmed in the Hamlin and Powhattan communities all of his married life, retiring to Hiawatha in 1969. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hiawatha. He attended the Willow Grove School west of Hiawatha and the Hiawatha Academy. He played cornet a number of years in the Kid Band, the Union Band and the First Regiment Band, all remembered for their concerts in the old wooden band stand then located on the present Brown County Courthouse site. He was married to Willie[sic] Belle Chamberlin on June 6, 1906. She survives at home. He is also survived by two sons, Leon Shannon of rural Hiawatha and Dale Shannon of Fort Collins, Colo.; one daughter, Mrs. Maurice (Marguerite) Glass of Colorado Springs, Colo.; ten grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held from the Meek Mortuary Chapel at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon, March 11, with the Rev. Harold Wolf officiating.
